  • What is Polycarbonate?
Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic resin discovered in 1953 nearly simultaneously by Bayer in Germany and GE in the United States. It is light weight and impact resistant. Polycarbonate was originally used for aerospace applications, including space suit "bubble helmets," fighter plane canopies, and windows on the space shuttle.

In the 1980's polycarbonate production costs came down, and polycarbonate eyeglass lenses began to enter the consumer eyewear market - to great success. Polycarbonate lenses are significantly lighter and safer than crown glass because of their low weight and impact resistance.

Today polycarbonate lenses are the most commonly prescribed lenses in the US. If you wear glasses, you probably have polycarbonate lenses in your frames.

What is single vision / bifocal?
A single vision lens corrects vision at one distance. Your reading glasses are single vision, and most prescription glasses are also single vision.

A Bifocal lens corrects vision at two distances. The top segment usually corrects for distance vision, and the bottom segment usually corrects for near vision. Bifocal lenses typically have a distinct line separating the two segments.

How long will it take to receive my order?
Prescription monocles are custom made for each order. Once all information is received regarding your prescription, we will place your order with our lab within 3 business days. The lab requires 7 days to process the order and then it ships via UPS from our lab in Los Angeles, CA. Please allow 10 business days for your order to arrive.

All other non-prescription items will ship separately from our warehouse in North Carolina as soon as your custom monocle is ready.

How do you handle returns and exchanges?
We want you to be 100% satisfied with your Prescription Monocle. If you receive the monocle and it's the wrong size, we are more than happy to process the exchange for a $30 fee and the return of your original monocle.

We do not offer pre-paid return labels.

For all returns, we will refund the full amount of your order, minus the $30 restocking fee, since your monocle is made specially for you and we're unable to resell it.
